Job Description

We are seeking a senior level service technician with at least 5 years’ experience in boilers and chillers, with a working knowledge of centrifugal, scroll and screw type chillers.

A service technician’s job requires diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of any HVAC-R equipment or system. Requirements might include but are not limited to lifting and maneuvering materials on job site, managing jobs, piping, soldering, cutting, operating power tools, cleaning, wiring, professionally handling discourse with clientele, and pricing jobs. On-the-job training provided and may include some additional schooling as needed.

Each technician receives an outfitted truck to use (may be able to take home at supervisor’s discretion). We also provide most major tools for the technicians.

This is a job that encourages and offers growth in the industry. A service technician will receive on-the-job training and other schooling to be proficient in light to heavy commercial and industrial applications.

Qualifications

• seeking a senior level service technician with at least 5 years experience in boilers and chillers, with a working knowledge of centrifugal, scroll and screw type chillers.
• at least 5 years’ commercial experience
• heavy commercial, industrial, or refrigeration experience a plus
• clean driving record
• ability to travel as necessary
• ability to pass background check
• ability to pass drug test
• ability to lift or carry at least 50 pounds
• technician's or contractor's license & EPA license required (or will need to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment)

Job Summary / Purpose

The Service Tech I – HVAC (entry level) performs inspections, testing, repairs, servicing, and planned maintenance of HVAC Systems.

Essential Duties

• Diagnoses HVAC system performance through observation, testing and setup as required by trade/position and type/size of equipment to include up to 15 Tons split systems, heat pump, RTU and WSHP.
• Performs disassembly and reassembly of large or small commercial or residential HVAC equipment to perform troubleshooting and planned maintenance as indicated in the service agreement.
• Completes service contracts, quoted service projects and demand service calls as directed. Starts to develop long-term relationships with customers and explains work performed to the customer's satisfaction.
• Participates in technician on-call/stand-by rotation as dictated by business unit policies and procedures.
• Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers.
• Maintains equipment, tools, and inventory stock on service vehicle.
• Safely drives a motor vehicle and trailer, follows requirements of company vehicle driving policy and adheres to all company safety requirements.
• Make Quotes for Repairs found.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education preferred of the position

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Two-year technical degree in related field is preferred.

Minimum certifications/license preferred of the position

• Must possess required registrations, professional licenses and/or certifications as required by the position.

Minimum experience preferred of the position

• 3 years in commercial service

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

• Required -- HVAC Unitary skills: split system - all brands up to 15 tons, up to 15 ton heat pump, roof top units – all brands up to 15 tons, water source heat pumps – all brands up to 5 tons, water source heat pumps – all brands up to 15 tons.
• Knowledge of brand specific controls.
• Fundamentals of A/C electrical circuits and low voltage D/C electrical circuits and operation.
• Hands on experience with one or more controls platforms.
• Ability to read basic schematics.
• Must be able to use app-based technology.
• Professional demeanor, solid interpersonal skills with good written and oral communication capability.
• Demonstrates strong business ethics at all times.

Job Band And Level

Works with clearly defined methods and tasks that are described in detail. Works under close supervision with little autonomy. Requires little or no prior relevant training or work experience.

Working Conditions

Work may be performed outdoors or on construction project jobsites subject to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibrations and dust, fumes and oils. Must have the ability to wear a portable respirator and adhere to all company safety requirements.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to work skillfully with both hands constantly.
Must have the ability to independently lift and carry objects safely that weigh up to 20 pounds routinely, 50 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffold; kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, twist, finger, grasp and feel on a constant and repetitive basis; stand, walk, talk, see (20/20 vision naturally or corrected), hear within normal range and perform repetitive motion activities.

Essential Duties

• Diagnoses HVAC system performance through observation, testing and setup as required by trade/position and type/size of equipment to include split systems up to 25 tons, mini split systems, 3 tons/multizone, RTUS up to 50 tons, WSHP up to 25 tons, self-contained systems, CRAC units, airside, AHUs and EFs. Proficiently operates hand tools, power tools, gauges and measuring equipment.
• Performs disassembly and reassembly of large or small commercial or residential HVAC equipment to perform troubleshooting and planned maintenance as indicated in the service agreement.
• Completes service contracts, quoted projects and demand service calls while maintaining profitability. Develops long-term relationships with customers and explains work performed to the customer's satisfaction.
• Participates in technician on-call-stand-by rotation as dictated by business unit policies and procedures.
• Safely drives a motor vehicle and trailer as evidenced by past driving performance record. Meets requirements of company vehicle driving policy, and adheres to all company safety requirements.
• Purchases materials and issues purchase order numbers to suppliers.
• Maintains equipment, tools, and inventory stock on service vehicle.
• Make Quotes for Repairs found.

• Required -- HVAC Chillers skills: Air-cooled chillers – Scroll/reciprocating up to 25 tons.
• Required -- HVAC Airside skills: Fan Powered Box, VAV Box, VFD Theory. Air Handler: Theory of AHU operation and Theory of control valve operation. Exhaust fans: Centrifugal Up blast Roof Fans and Centrifugal Inline Fan.
• Knowledge of brand specific controls.
• Must be able to read schematics and blue prints.
• Diagnostic ability as demonstrated through prior experience and/or training. Performs as self-managed individual.
• Knowledge of brand-specific controls.
• Professional demeanor, solid interpersonal skills with good written and oral communication capability.
• Demonstrates strong business ethics at all times.

Job Band And Level

Requires skills developed through formal training or work experience. Works within established procedures and guidelines with limited ability to modify approach. Completes assigned tasks with a moderate degree of supervision.
