BOILERS

BOILERS

Generally speaking, there are differences in boilers and how they heat water.

Boilers are a way of providing warmth by heating water. This method can be used to deliver hot water (termed “domestic hot water boilers”) or deliver warm air from fan coils that pass air across the hot water coils (coils are the piping containing the heated water from the boiler).

The latter types are termed “steam boilers.” Because the hot water piping can travel great distances, boilers are a preferred method of heating high-rise buildings or sites with numerous buildings or structures needing heat (such as apartment complexes, schools, college campuses, or industrial sites).

Boilers can range from as small as only putting out 40,000 BTU (British thermal unit) per hour (BTU/h) to as large as over 2 BILLION BTU/h!

Boilers basically appear to develop common issues over the service life of the boiler. We wrote an article that is helpful in showing boiler repair with these common issues. This is very helpful if you would like a short list of things to check before you call a service technician. Learn more.

Boilers develop signs over time as well. These signs are things such as

• water leaks • strange sounds • unusual smells • no hot water or heat • water not hot enough • boiler turns itself off • energy bills are higher • and more...

Our article on these common problems should help you with understanding each of these problems so that you can be better informed about your boiler and its operations. Learn more here.
